Describe yourself with three words.

Creative, humorous, and a hillbilly. Three words can´t describe me being overly talented also makes you arrogant. My mother said I had diarrhea of the mouth and too independent. Took me to a psychiatrist because I´d hold up in my room alone, laughing.

How old are you?

I´ll say over 40 but age is just a way to catagorize a person.  I´m old enough to have gone through beaucoup changes and lived in Los Angeles, Chico, San Francisco, California, New York, Las Vegas, Frankfurt and Hamburg, Germany.  I created a song regarding age “Grave Digger”. (lyrics below)

Seems you yourself should be glad you lived another day.  I´m superior to your type, and have no fear of dying.

When my time comes around there is no shortage of your kind.  I´ve been through the hard times and have enjoyed the good times.

And pretending everyday, living our life for someone else, but behind closed doors in our tiny little world.

We are on the stage, pretending everyday, living our life for someone else, but behind closed doors in our tiny little world.

We are on the stage, pretending everyday, living our life for someone else, but behind closed doors in our tiny little world.

No one wants to be my friend, cause I´m getting old.  Why does the age matter when there´s so much harm going on? Should you care about a number rather than what´s in my heart.

Who are you to tell me to go lay down like I´m some dog?  As if my life meant nothing to... no one.  You know nothing about who I know or why or where.  Only that I don´t fit into your group, and I don´t care.

Tell me about it brother.  Tell me about it mother.  Tell me all my friends.

You´re a grave digger.  You´re a grave digger.  Pretending each day, living on a stage, but behind closed doors, another world.

Tell me about it brother.  Tell me about it mother.  Tell me all me friends.

We are on the stage, pretending everyday, living our life for someone else, but behind closed doors in our tiny little world.

We are on the stage, pretending everyday, living our life for someone else, but behind closed doors in our tiny little world.

What's your main source of inspritation?

The Supreme Being, knowing that He/She has blessed me with a bundle of talent for a reason and this inspires me to keep-on keeping on.   The Supreme Being, enlightened me to ESP at a time this ghetto-child was dodging disasters along the way..  I don´t forget where I came from, a rich boat-load of memories.   This hippy mind was designing fashion and now  Neo-soul, videos, screenplays and art.

Which of your own videos is your favourite?

Hillbilly is my favorite.

Where are you based?

I´m in Germany, since 1993.  I had been thinking of a change, but one day on my way to a friend´s place on Gough street in San Francisco, a dude came up to me and asked me to walk back to his place.  Curious, I wait outside while he runs inside and back.  He gave me a book, The Super Being, 50 pages.  He told me I had a strong vibes and that my money was in europe.  From that day my journey realized.

Where would you like to see your work exhibited one day?

MTV and on the big screen, the cover of magazines, models prancing the runway to my music, playing in department stores...and like that.

What sparked your interest for animation/audio art?

For an artist animation is perfect, colors, textures and most important  is, no limits.  As a woman of color, there has always been limits placed by someone not qualified.  So the only limits in animaton are the ones I place.    Merging art and music on video is a natural, each enhances the other and the best way to utilize all my talent.

What is seaweed?

The green vegetable found out to sea.  And title of a magazine into fashion and wearable art.

INTERVIEW:

TEXT: CARL GUSTAF VON PLATEN

PHOTOS/VIDEOS: KATHLEEN DANIEL

Hiding within the depths of the internet, I found Kathleen Daniel. Fate paved my way to discovering Daniel, and the path was one that passed many crossroads - thus leading me to an ultimate form of media.

Daniel's art plays of many different aspects of life - spanning from scenarious played out in the typical american household to grand quests in divergent dimentions. The exremely talented Daniel creates video and music that in my opinion reflect a symbiosis of all that is beautifully unlovely. An array of these oxymornoic videos can be found on her youtube page and her website.
