INTERVIEW:

VENICE
WANAKORNKUL

TEXT: CARL GUSTAF VON PLATEN

Sitting on a persian rug I flip through Venice Wanakornkul’s portfolios. Sketchbooks, research and portfolios create several pillars of fine art and fashion design. Venice brings me a cup of coffee - surrounded by beautiful garments it makes me nervous. I see fringed hems, wearable furniture and lots of vintage comme des garcons. I’m sitting in Venice Wanakornkul’s studio.

Venice Wanakornkul, born in 1990, is a fashion designer / artist with an extensively multicultural background. She was born and has lived in Thailand for the majority of her life, now she lives in London where she has studied art and she has even done an exchange year in Stockholm.

Venice is a young designer that has a timeless but humours style. Churning out endless ideas her clothes are utilitarian and reflect new ideas. When looking through her garments I find myself constantly questioning how to wear them. Her history with fine art is visible in her clothes and her love for organic and satirical  silhouettes.

I talked with her about her inspirations and her background.
